Train travel in Vi?t Nam moved up a few rungs on the luxury ladder when the Blue Train set off on its maiden journey from Sài Gòn to Nha Trang.

Adorned with air-conditioned, plush interiors that include LCD TVs and other facilities, the five-star train has 14 coaches with seven compartments each to accommodate 500 passengers. It $847,200 to build.

The inaugural schedule for the Blue Train has it leaving Sài Gòn at 8:05 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and arriving in Nha Trang at 5:12 a.m.

From Nha Trang, the train will leave at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and arrive in Sài Gòn at 4:12 a.m. the following day. Tickets for the Blue Train cost from $10.60 to $19 each. The Sài Gòn Railway Company is offering a 25 percent discount on tickets purchased from now until Dec. 15.
