WESTMINSTER, Calif. — More than 300 children are expected to take part in the annual Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest, the celebration of the mid-autumn harvest festival, also known as T?t Trung Thu.

VAALA (Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association) is sponsoring the 6th Annual Children’s Art Contest to celebrate this holiday with the community. To participate, children must register by Sept. 5.

The Children’s Art Contest takes place Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ngu?i Vi?t Community Room and VAALA Studio, 14771-14772 Moran St., in Westminster. All art supplies are provided to participants for this mixed-media art contest.

The event will close with an awards ceremony on Sept. 14 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and children’s performances that are open to the public. On the lineup is lion dancing, performances by the Laïc Hoàng Performing Arts Group, a screening of short animations, and a paper lantern march. Each child can make a lantern.

Participants will complete an original poster at the event and submit their entry anonymously. A panel of five judges will award First ($200), Second ($100) and Third ($50) Place winners, in addition to three Honorable Mentions ($25 each), for each age group. Awards are divided into four age groups: 5-7 years old; 8-10 years old; 11-12 years old; and 13-15 years old.

All children who participate in the art contest will receive a T-shirt and a gift bag.
