'"The Unknown Citizen,"' an exhibition of works by Los Angeles artist Ðài Truong. On June 28, from 6-9 p.m., there will be an artist’s reception in conjunction with the gallery gala. Truong’s focus includes grappling with the issue of constraint and conflict in our daily life, both external and internal, spiritual and secular, personal and universal. The human form is the recurrent motif in his work and he is inspired by peeling plasters of dilapidated urban ghettos. He often uses washes of paint over human visages to create a self-obscuring, restraining effect. The exhibit is his tribute to W.H. Sawdust Art Festival

Chinatown will host the Southland’s oldest annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Acrobats, cultural performances, children’s activities and traditional food will be featured. Phoenix Bakery, Chinatown’s oldest bakery, will demonstrate how moon cakes are made mixing red bean, lotus seeds and egg yolks in this traditional treat; complimentary samples will be handed out later in the evening. Wine and Food Pairings Fundraising Dinner hosted by wine aficionado Phi Anh to raise fund for ICAN projects.
