SANTA ANA, Calif. ― Mark your calendar for the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival (Tet Trung Thu), an annual traditional event that celebrates the lunar harvest. This year, VAALA and Nguoi Viet Daily News will host the 10th Anniversary Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest. For the first time, the organizations are partnering with the Festival of Children Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them.”
The public is invited to the Sept. 30 Awards Ceremony, which will be held at South Coast Plaza, where the foundation’s annual family-friendly program continues through September. By uniting the two, organizers hope to share the Moon Festival traditions with a diverse community. The Awards Ceremony, which drew more than 800 audience members in previous years, will include youth-led music, singing, and dance performances, a lion dance and lantern march.
Before the presentation of awards, which will run from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the public is invited to take part in family activities beginning at 1 p.m. South Coast Plaza is at 3333 Bristol St., in Costa Mesa, Calif.
After that day, all of the artwork from the contest will be exhibited at VAALA Cultural Center at 1600 N. Broadway, Suite 210, in Santa Ana.
