Fourteen-year-old Desmond Nguyen is charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action. He was originally taken into custody by juvenile authorities. He was charged as an adult March 18.

Nguyen is accused of being part of a group of four teens in a van who started shooting at a 29-year-old woman walking south on Broadway around 11 p.m. Feb. 9. The woman was shot in the neck and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police spotted the suspects’ grey van driving west on Loughborough, and pulled them over. Investigators determined the teens were also responsible for a robbery in the 3600 block of Neosho, property damage at Keokuk and Spring, and an assault and firing shots into a dwelling in the 7000 block of Trainor Court earlier in the evening.
