Vietnam ranks fourth in world instant noodle consumption

HANOI — Vietnamese are the world’s fourth largest consumers of instant noodles who buy roughly 5.4 billion packets every year, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

The latest report from the World Instant Noodles Association (WINA) showed Vietnam ranks behind China, Indonesia and India in annual consumption of instant noodles.


On per capita consumption, Vietnam comes third behind South Korea and Indonesia with one Vietnamese and Chinese consuming an average of 56.2 and 36 packets respectively in a year.


Instant noodle consumption in the country has grown at a consistent double-digit rate as demand continues to rise in urban and rural areas.


Between 2008 to 2012, demand increased by nearly 24 percent in Vietnam, 3 per cent in China and Indonesia and 5 per cent in South Korea and Japan.
