Women’s tennis concludes play at Fall Classic I

The San Diego State women’s tennis team concluded play at the SDSU Fall Classic I on Sunday. The annual tournament saw six teams from across the country meet at the Aztec Tennis Center over the weekend.

Kristin Buth and Laura Antonana Iriarte got onto the court to contend for the title in the red doubles draw. The San Diego State duo fought for each point against Smith and Jodoin of Duke. The Aztecs took the match to a tiebreaker but would come up short, 8-7 (3).



In a consolation bracket in the black doubles draw, Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen snuck past Morkel-Brink and Stojanovic of San Diego, 8-7. In another consolation matchup, Dora Somoracz and Olivia Larsson dropped their decision to Brandt and Jolliff of New Mexico State in the white doubles draw, 8-1.



In singles play, Antonana Iriarte took down Yuki Chiang of Pepperdine in consolation bracket of the red draw, 6-4, 6-4. In the black bracet, Buth took the consolation title in straight sets over Brittany Collens of New Mexico State, 6-0, 7-5. In the same draw, Nguyen fell short to Michaela Capannolo of Pepperdine, even after taking the match to three sets, in a consolation matchup, 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-2.
