Viet Nam market fire draws 10 suspensions

           


Officials investigating the fire that destroyed the largest market in the central Viet Nam province of Quang Ngai have suspended 10 members of the market’s management board.


           


The suspended include Director Tran Quang Vinh, and his subordinate, vice director Nguyen Duc Vinh. Others suspended include seven security guards and one technician; all will serve three-month suspensions.


           


On Feb. 9, a fire broke out at Quang Ngai Market and spread quickly. It was not extinguished for more than six hours, after nearly all the goods of 424 traders were destroyed with damages estimated at $9.6 million.


           


No casualties were recorded. The investigation is continuing.
