Father’s Day isn’t celebrated in Vietnam. There, the stereotypical father is stern and quiet. The third Sunday in June is just another day.
But in Orange County’s Little Saigon, children of Vietnamese heritage can’t help but gush about their dads. These younger, American-raised fathers seemingly are participants in child rearing, active in their kids’ lives and passionate about parenting.
Their kids have taken note.
Nguoi Viet News reporter interviewed 10 Vietnamese children, ages 5 to 11, and ask them to share feelings and facts about their dads. Their responses were predictably funny and heartwarming. Some even showed a bit of cluelessness about their dads, as this video will show.
One thing they were sure about? There’s nothing better than spending time with Dad.
Happy Father’s Day!
