OC Parks is holding its third annual Monarch Butterfly Day to teach about monarch butterflies in their natural habitat.
The event is geared toward children and families and is free. It will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mile Square Regional Park, 16801 Euclid St., in Fountain Valley, Calif. The event will take place in the Butterfly Garden inside the park’s Camp Sycamore, located near parking lot E. Children can assist in planting more than 140 native plants to attract Monarch Butterflies. Participants can also go inside a netted butterfly enclosure.
Butterfly experts will be on-site to provide educational information and answer questions about the unique specimens.
Additional activities include children’s crafts, face painting, a balloon artist and guided nature walks. Each child will receive native seeds to take home and plant to continue to help build safe habitats for Monarch Butterflies and other creatures.
The event is recommended for ages 4 to 12. Rain will cancel event. For more information, call (714) 973-6600 or email milesquare@ocparks.com.
