SAN JOSE ― Madison Nguyen, the vice mayor of San Jose, has decided not to run for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, she announced.

Instead, Nguyen said she will continue on the city council until her term ends at the end of next year. According to media reports, she instead will run for mayor in the 2014 elections.
The opening on the Board of Supervisors was created by the resignation of George Shirakawa Jr., who resigned earlier this month after being accused of misusing taxpayer money and campaign funds. He has pleaded guilty to those charges.
A special election will be held on June 4 to fill the empty seat. So far, teacher Patricia Martinez-Roach and former San Jose city employee David Wall have paid the fee to take out the candidacy petition. Martinez-Roach has submitted enough voter signatures to qualify for the ballot.
