The Commerce Department has ruled that reviews of frozen fish fillets from Vietnam have shown that what the importers call catfish has been sold at prices too low.

The effect, according to the Commerce Department, has been a harm to the U.S. catfish industry. One ranking member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee, Mississippi Republican Thad Cochran, has been fighting the imports of lower-priced Vietnamese catfish.
The department’s announcement was based on reviews from Aug. 1, 2011, to July 31, 2012.
Catfish distributors in the U.S. want to level the playing field in terms of pricing.
