JOHOR BARU: A Vietnamese national has been jailed for two months for offering a RM300 bribe to a policeman as an inducement to not take action against his countryman.

Waiter Nguyen Van Phong, 29, admitted that he offered the money to Kpl Mazrolhisham Maidin of the Seri Alam district police headquarters motor patrol unit at around 1.45am on April 15, 2014, at Jalan Dedap 6, Taman Johor Jaya, here.
On that day, Kpl Mazrolhisham was patrolling the housing estate when he spotted Van Pong’s friend Nguyen Van Giang, 24, behaving suspiciously.
When requested, Van Giang failed to produce a valid travel document. Van Phong, who saw Van Giang being questioned, went to his friend’s aid.
