DEPEW, N.Y. – Every time it rains, Len Recore gets nervous. He said the water comes in so strong at times it’s like someone is blowing it inside his home.

“I really start flipping out when I hear raindrops. I just know it’s going to be a long day or a long night”.

Recore explained that when it rains an inch or more, the basement in his Depew home floods. Often ruining whatever is in its path.

“When it rains I get so much water coming into my sub pump. I have three pumps that I have to keep running. I’m pumping out sometimes 10,000 gallons of water an hour” said Recore of Depew.

Recore’s daughter noticed he was running out of options to fix the problem so she contacted Vets H.E.R.D. It’s a non-profit that helps veterans in need.

On Sunday volunteers worked for hours removing soil from the yard and filled it with 18 yards of clean clay.
