In this busy world, everyone needs a chance to slow down and relieve stress.

Viet Wake Up OC wants to help the residents of Orange County do just that.
The nonprofit group is an offshoot of Wake Up ―Young People for a Healthy & Compassionate Society. It aspires to offer refuge, spiritual nourishment and support for anyone who wants to move from personal suffering to contributing toward a better society.
And on Sept. 28, Viet Wake Up OC is hosting a one-day event aimed at instilling peace and mindfulness in participants. Those who attend will have an opportunity to learn about mindfulness meditation and how to find peace within themselves. Instead of connecting with technology, smartphones and social media, connecting with those who are around them can lead to peace, organizers said.
“Wake Up is an opportunity to come back to ourselves because we are so focused on the world around us — and not us,” said Dung Tran, a member of Viet Wake Up OC.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mile Square Regional Park, 16801 Euclid St., Fountain Valley (Park Shelter #1, on the south shore of South Lake, cornor of Warner Ave. and Euclid St.). Admission is free, and a vegetarian lunch will be served. Please RSVP at http://vietwakeupoc.org/ by Sunday.
Sessions include conscious breathing, sitting meditation, walking meditation and eating meditation. They will be conducted in English, with a Vietnamese translation, and targeted toward young Vietnamese American adults. Dharma teachers will lead the events that teach the practice of meditation.

“It’s really a big movement to try to get everyone in every city to know about the Wake Up movement, mindfulness, and meditation” Hang said. “People can learn how not to be stressful in life and to bring peace in themselves.”
Hung Bui, from the Xom Dua Sangha, concurred.
“We would like to introduce the practice of mindfulness to the young people,” he said, adding that even corporate America is starting to embrace it.
“Corporations such as Google bring the practice of mindfulness to relieve stress and help the company a lot,” Bui said.
