Of all the modes of transportation to try and steal to hitch a ride from, the cyclo, or pedi-cab is probably the least efficient. But for the members of the San Diego Vietnamese community, this particular cyclo was special, and full of meaning.

The Little Saigon Foundation is asking the public to help locate an iconic Vietnamese cycle rickshaw that was stolen a day before this weekend’s Lunar New Year Festival at Qualcomm Stadium, where it was going to be on display.
The cyclo was stolen from the City Heights home of a Little Saigon San Diego Foundation board member on Central Avenue sometime before Thursday morning, said Ron Luong, vice president of the foundation. The rickshaw was loaded onto a truck in preparation for the festival at the time of the theft.
Luong said the cyclo was brought to the United States from Vietnam to help people visualize an iconic form of Vietnamese transportation. He said it is set up annually in the Cultural Village – an exhibit at the Lunar New Year festival where visitors can see and photograph cultural items.
“It represents the hard working spirit of the common people in Vietnam for ages…” he said in a statement.
The Saigon foundation asked anyone with information about the cycle’s whereabouts to call its offices at (619) 719-0800 or (619) 817-7888. Luong said the foundation members won’t press charges if the cyclo is returned before the festival begins on Friday.
