A resident of the area, whose car was damaged, alleged that the officer (whose name has not been publicized) was drunk and could not even stand or speak. Police registered a case of rash and negligent driving but they did not take the officer’s medical test or license details because of his diplomatic immunity.
The officer who responded to the accident said that when they approached the diplomat, he appeared to be drunk and could hardly speak. The officer said that the diplomat refused to show his license. Police registered a case under section 279 of the Indian Penal Code. The external affairs ministry refused to comment.
