Concert organizers should be fined $96,000 for skimpy outfits

From WIRE REPORTS

HA NOI ― While the cultural ministry is discussing tripling the current penalties of $144 to $288 for artists caught wearing “inappropriate” skimpy outfits on stage, a city official has suggested fines should be jacked up to $48,000 to $96,000 to scare scantily clad performers.

Pham Quang Long, director of Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, told the ministry at a meeting that current punishments are too light to change artists’ behavior, according to a report on news website VnExpress.

Long said the government should slap show organizers with extremely heavy penalties to stop the problem at its root.

Female singers have recently made headlines by appearing on stage in costumes that reveal all kinds of skin ― not just legs, bellies and cleavage, but even breasts and bare nipples.

“The show organizers promised firmly in written papers that they would not violate the outfit regulations, but 100 percent of them have done so in the end. That means they were not scared and did not hesitate to use those outfits for business purposes,” Long said.

“The punishment of [money] means nothing compared to the profit they would earn from the shows.”

He said Viet Nam’s regulations on live performances and concerts have too many loopholes that allow artists to skirt the government’s rules.
