SANTA ANA, Calif. ― The members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors have appointed Hieu Nguyen as the county clerk-recorder.

Since he will fill Daly’s unexpired term, he must run for election in 2014 to retain the seat. The owner of a Lee’s Sandwiches franchise, Nguyen unsuccessfully sought election to the position in 2010.
Nguyen is a former employee of the clerk-recorder’s office, working there for more than a decade. He left in 2006 for a job with the Board of Supervisors. Nguyen now is the second-highest ranking Vietnamese American in the county, after Supervisor Janet Nguyen.
