Parenthood, redefined

They
broke with tradition, wanting to be mothers so badly that they would do it in a
way unheard of in Viet Nam. The single women who lived a generation ago in the
northwestern Viet Nam village of Loi asked men to father their children ― and
never come around again. Here is their story,
