A
Massachusetts zoning board has denied a request from a pair of entrepreneurs
who want to open a Vietnamese restaurant, telling them to return to the board
with new site plans.
The
Zoning Board of Appeals in Swampscott, Mass., said that applicants Nam Nguyen
and Tho Thi Lam-Nguyen’s proposed restaurant, pegged to have an exterior with
an Asian theme, would not fit the character of the neighborhood.
The partners had planned to convert
a former insurance office and law firm into the restaurant. It would seat 61
inside and another 20 outside.
Neighbors
had not objected to the design but rather to the site itself for a restaurant
since the building can accommodate only six cars in its parking lot.
Additional, neighbors told the zoning board the feared truck noise and problems
created by trash pickup.
