Bright dresses, sarongs and thrumming music filled the Bluebonnet Ballroom on Wednesday. As part of UTA’s International Week, the International Student Organization hosted a fashion show featuring clothing from different countries.

The show started with La Sociedad Hispanica showcasing dresses from Mexico and Spain.

Spanish studies senior Kimberly Martinez said she modeled for La Sociedad Hispanica because she is proud of her heritage.

“I’m so proud to be a Mexican. I’m happy to participate because I want to show my pride,” she said.

Interdisciplinary studies junior Leticia Tudon said she hadn’t seen much publicity for the show and expected it to be smaller, but was pleasantly surprised.

“After seeing it, I thought it was amazing,” she said. “You could tell that people were proud of their culture and their heritage. So that really stuck out to me, and I’ll definitely try and come again next year.”

In addition to the show, international student associations arranged booths to inform attendees about unique facts from their respective countries. Attendees had the opportunity to visit the booths to learn more about cultures they weren’t familiar with.
