Coach James Williams said that what he likes most about Phan is her character.
“She’s a good kid and she works hard,” Williams said.
“She has a great attitude.”
Phan plays mostly midfield and defense for Parkland. On defense, Williams said Phan has a knack for making it difficult for opposing teams to score goals.
“She has developed a tenacity for playing strong defense,” he said.
“She is a very smart player. Her defensive understanding of how to stop people and shut people down is great. It’s helped us and taught her other teammates who are new at the game how to play defense.”
Phan said she started playing soccer in middle school. She said her love for running is what motivated her to try the sport.
“I’ve always liked running and my friends got me interested in playing soccer,” Phan said.
