DEARBORN HEIGHTS — All eyes were on Kashire Dowridge when she arrived at Crestwood High School’s prom.

The 19-year-old senior spent more than five months imagining, sketching and creating a one-of-a-kind dress for the day.
The orange and ivory dress is a strapless, floor-length creation.
When she first started envisioning the dress for the big day, she wasn’t certain exactly what she wanted it to be.
But as time went on, it came together piece by piece, and she couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.
“It was very beautiful, the way it flowed,” she said. “The finished results made me very happy.”
And she felt like the belle of the ball.
“I surprised everyone at prom, and everyone wanted to see it,” she said. “I was the diamond girl of the night.”
In fact, after finding out the dress was her own creation, a few friends and a couple of teachers have asked her to make something special for them in the future.
Why would a busy high school senior use all her spare time to design her own gown? Because it is her passion.
