AUSTIN — President Barack Obama has appointed the head of a local nonprofit organization to his Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Linda X. Phan, executive director of Asian Family Support Services of Austin (AFSSA) was chosen to be part of the 16-member commission because of her service to Asian immigrant families dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking.
