The Cardinals confirmed that they have promoted outfielder Tommy Pham, and also announced the addition of infielder Greg Garcia and relief pitcher Sam Tuivailala to their major-league roster.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Pham and Tuivailala, the Cardinals designated catcher Audry Perez and outfielder Rafael Ortega for assignment.
The Cardinals will add the final wave of promotions from Class AAA Memphis today at Cincinnati once a few spots are cleared on the 40-man roster. The club needed to make moves over the weekend to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Tommy Pham, who will be among the players promoted.
Power reliever Sam Tuivailala (pronounced TOO-ee-vah-lah-la), who started the season at Class A and only recently reached Class AAA for the playoffs, has also been considered for a promotion because of a fastball that hit 100 mph regularly in the Texas League.
The Cardinals declined to announce or finalize any of the moves until the 40-man roster had been tidied and players possibly losing spots had been notified. The moves started when the Triple-A Redbirds were eliminated Saturday from the Pacific Coast League championship series.
Manager Mike Matheny said the promotions are rewards — and for needs.
