A community activist vying to replace Vice Mayor Rose Herrera in the San Jose City Council race in District 8 is dropping out to focus on her health.

Jenny Do, a Vietnamese-American attorney is battling breast cancer and will begin chemotherapy treatment that could give her one to three more years to live. The treatment is a 50/50 gamble.
Do, 49, who battled breast cancer in 2007, said survival is her main priority at this point.
In addition to her advocacy on issues like human trafficking, Do is a recognizable figure in San Jose’s arts community. She founded the Green Rice Gallery in downtown, which showcased art fromVietnamese-American artists and served on the Arts Commission of San Jose. Do posted a final wish list of her causes and goals, including seeing a Vietnamese-American Community Center open in San Jose.
