In accordance to a new Vietnamese initiative calling for every child to have one glass of milk a day, crews loaded 20 truckloads of cattle onto a livestock cargo ship at the Port of Olympia to Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam does not have the supply to match that demand.

The ship was inspected by officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Sunday. On Monday, the port’s new crane finally was put to work loading the Falconia with feed and wood chips for bedding. The cattle will be used in dVietnam for milk, protein and breeding.
The cows are from California, and are better acclimated to warmer weather. Before being brought to the port, they were held at the Schorno Agri-business in Yelm.
The trip is expected to take 29 days and it is so far, the largest ever for cattle crossing the Pacific.
