In the aftermath of a terrible and heartbreaking tragedy, the family of San Bernardino shooting victim Tin Nguyen is receiving support from all over the world.

Family friend Kim Oanh Pham set up a GoFundMe account on Dec. 3 to help the family pay for funeral arrangements for Nguyen. Their goal? $10,000. Five days later, that goal has been surpassed many times over, with over $51,000 raised so far by family, friends and strangers from all over the world.

For her, immigrating to the U.S. meant finding a refuge from fear. In a cruel twist, she was killed in the San Bernardino mass shooting. (Haisan Trinh/Courtesy of Jimmy Nguyen via AP, File)

A statement posted in the site by Nguyen’s brother reads:

“I am overwhelmed. In these hours of darkness, it is unfathomable for my mother, San and me to think of a tomorrow without Tin, let alone the realities of daily life and postmortem arrangements. Thank you Kim Oanh and friends who helped organize this go-fund-me for my sister. Our family believes in the power of prayers and we have felt yours and those of the whole nation, very deeply. While we were initially reluctant to accept this financial gift, I humbly admit that it would be a huge relief…Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and donations to our family and other families affected by this horrific tragedy. May God bless those who have perished, comfort loved ones left behind in great pains, and heal all who are still suffering from injuries.” Rest in peace our beloved Tin.”

According to the family’s spokesperson, Nguyen’s funeral will take place this weekend. The wake will be held on Friday, December 11, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Peek Family Funeral Home, located at 7801 Bolsa Ave, Room No. 1, in Westminster.
