A happily-ever-after has come out of the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in April. James “Bim” Costello, who was so seriously burned in the blasts that he required pig skin grafts implanted on most of his right leg and right arm, is engaged to a nurse he met while recovering.

Costello and his new fiancee, Krista D’Agostino, are currently in the south of France on an all-expenses-paid vacation provided by Vantage Deluxe World Travel to 114 bombing survivors, their family, and first responders. The couple got engaged Sunday in Lyon, France, and according to the Boston Globe , Costello announced the news on Facebook.
“As you all know, April 15th was one of the worst days of my life, suffering not only physical injuries of my own but the emotional difficulties when I learned about my friends,” Costello wrote. According to the AP , three of his friends lost a leg in the bombings, while other friends suffered from shrapnel injuries and serious burns. “I soon wondered why and for what reason this had happened.”
After two weeks of intense treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital, where Costello was one of the bombing victims that met with President Barack Obama, he was transferred to a second facility—where he first laid eyes on his future bride-to-be.
