She came to the United States five years ago alone, speaking no English. She was blind, a side effect after treatment she went through at age 1 after being bitten by a rabid dog. Now, thanks to surgery to correct her vision and hard work to learn English, Ngoc Tram Duong Nguyen is on her way toward becoming a nurse. A senior nursing student at the University of New Mexico, she also is the most recent winner of a Minority Burse Scholarship.
