The money will help support the family of Phuoc Lam, the 37-year-old San Jose resident who was shot after a minor road rage incident escalated.
The incident took place Tuesday morning at the intersection of Senter and Tully in South San Jose.
Lam’s wife, Dieu Huynh was with her husband when they nearly collided with another car. She told police they both got out of the car and that’s when the other driver took aim at her husband. He was rushed to the hospital where he died later that night.
The newly widowed Huynh speaks almost no English but through a translator told KTVU that she was worried that she would not be able to support their two sons, one of whom has a disability that requires constant care. Her husband was the sole breadwinner in the family. He worked seven days a week, 17-hours a day as a bus driver for a Vietnamese company.
She was a fulltime stay at home Mom caring for their sons, but now says their future is uncertain.
San Jose officer Huan Nguyen heard about the family’s plight from a colleague who responded to the shooting.
