Tablets, e-book readers soar in popularity

          Don’t
expect to see people sitting at your local Starbucks anymore with their laptop
computers. That’s so 2010.

          Instead,
you’ll see people scanning their tablet computers and e-book readers, which
jumped in popularity this past holiday season.

          The
percentage of adults in the U.S. with a tablet computer jumped from 10 percent
to 19 percent in the few weeks from mid-December of 2011 to early January. The
ownership of e-book readers increased by the same amount during those weeks,
according to the
Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life
Project
.

          In all, 29
percent of all Americans have at least one of these devices, up from 18 percent
in December.

The Kindle Fire from Amazon and the
Nook Tablet by Barnes and Noble, introduced at the start of the holiday shopping season, both
helped to contribute to the growth. – Nguoi Viet 2
