FOUNTAIN VALLEY – City Council incumbents Mayor Michael Vo, Councilman John Collins and Councilman Mark McCurdy kept their seats, according to election results released Wednesday.

Six challengers – Kim Constantine, Jonathan Huynh, Tuan Nguyen, Patrick Tucker, Patrick Harper and Tom Nguyen – failed to edge ahead.
Among the most heatedly discussed issues at a candidate forum hosted by the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce in September was the city’s solid-waste contract with Rainbow Environmental Services. Several of the candidates said the City Council should put the agreement out to bid.
The City Council voted 4-1 in July to approve a 68-cent increase for residents’ monthly trash bill, bringing it to $18.84.
Regardless of who was elected to the City Council on Tuesday, the city couldn’t contractually put the solid-waste out to bid for another 15 years because of its evergreen contract with Rainbow Environmental Services.
