From Our Vanity
The decline of nail art has been especially evident on Spring 2014 runways where solid colors along with metallic finish ruled the ball. Brights and solid pastels are worn over mostly natural nails that are on the shorter side. Flesh-colored or transparent manicure seems to have become a Spring must so you can easily go for that look. But here are the main manicure trends and colors of the coming season.

Manicure Colors & Trends – Spring 2014
Half Moon
Half moon mani is the major hit of the season. It can be done on unpainted nails or it the moon can be left unpainted instead. Both of these variants make for interesting fresh take on the familiar manicure style.
Colorful French Mani
French manicure isn’t as hot as nude nails unless it’s done in color. Opt for interesting color combos for your French mani to stand out this spring. Also check out the mani from Kate Spade’s Spring 2014 show for inspiration.
Stripes
Bold and thin stripes, painted or stuck on, are big this season so don’t put away a thin nail art brush just yet. You can draw checkers like nail artists did at Tracy Reese or you could just create a few thin colored stripes on your nude nails.
White
White has been spotted at a few shows including Prabal Gurung, Nanette Lepore, Chicca Lualdi, and Kye. At the latter the nails were long and featured a couple of clear lines closer to the tips of the nails. This futuristic look is a nice unexpected twist for those who dislike toothpaste white nail polish. For this look opt for something semi-sheer.
Orange
Orange popped here and there on the spring runways and at some cases even matched the orange lipstick. If you don’t want a matchy-matchy look but would like to try orange the safe way, go for the nail polish. You can find the similar shade in O.P.I’s Brazil Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
Purple
Purple came in various hues from dark rich purple at Giorgio Armani to pastel violet at Emporio Armani. The pastel hue was also spotted at Puglisi and Wes Gordon where it (Essie Lilacism) was paired with sandy nude Essie Sand Tropez.
