At only 4-years-old, Peyton Phan has more daring and courage than most people could imagine, and his quick thinking allowed him to escape a carjacking relatively unharmed.

Peyton Phan and his mother, Hanh Tran, were visiting relatives in Stockton on Sunday, when she placed him in the back of her Honda Civic. She then went back inside to say goodbye. That’s when a thief jumped into the driver’s seat and took off with Phan still in the car.
Neighbors said they saw the car careening down the street at roughly 60 to 70 miles per hour and as he rounded the corner, little Peyton fell out. According to officers, Phan jumped out of the car and sustained cuts and scrapes to his feet and legs. Phan’s mom is extremely grateful that he jumped out, fearing things could be much worse if he remained in the stolen vehicle.
The suspect, described as a 40-something Hispanic male, has not been identified. Authorities said they do not believe he was aware Phan was in the car at the time of the theft.
Tran’s vehicle, a 2001 silver Honda Civic 4-door, with California license plate 7EDX752, has not yet been recovered. Anyone with information is asked to call the Stockton Police Department at 209-937-8377.
