Cardinals promote Pham to AAA team

Tommy Pham has moved closer to his dream of playing in the major leagues.

The St. Louis Cardinals have promoted Pham, 25, to their AAA affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds. Pham, an outfielder, is batting .271 in Memphis with seven RBI after his promotion from AA Springfield. Between both teams, he has a .293 batting average on the season with six home runs and 35 RBI.

Pham was drafted in 2006 by the Cardinals after graduating from Durango High School in Las Vegas. There is talk on Cardinals-related websites that the team could call Pham to the majors should current center fielder Jon Jay continue his season-long slump.

Should Pham be promoted to the big club, he would be the second Vietnamese American to play in the major leagues. Danny Graves, who was born in Sai Gon, pitched for three teams from 1996 to 2006.
