Easy Faux Pho. Try saying that three times in a row! Pho is one of my favorite dishes of Vietnam, and to get an authentic bowl of this country’s comfort food you have to travel there or visit a Vietnamese restaurant.
faux pho

Just as in all cultures, each dish varies from house to house, but for this luscious bowl of noodles and broth, the recipe always begins with at least 3 to 4 hours of cooking marrow-rich beef or chicken bones. Roasted herbs and spices, like lemon grass, star of anise, garlic, Thai bird chilies and ginger are added during certain stages of cooking.
To finish off the flavorful steaming bowl of soup, different types of fresh herbs, including basil or cilantro, bean sprouts, noodles, and slices of beef or chicken are served as additions. Thus the name, the word pho is derived from the French term “pot au feu ” meaning, meat stew and the Vietnamese term used for “pot of fire.”
Just recently, I found out the proper way to pronounce the word pho in Vietnamese is actually “ fau .” Considered a “street food,” bowls of pho are sold throughout Vietnam, and are served mainly for breakfast and lunch. I could eat this hearty bowl of goodness every single day and in fact so much, I decided to create my own at home.
