How crazy is this: I just learned a no-makeup makeup look that actually involves almost no products. It’s a technique New York City–based makeup artist Jenny Scarpelli used on me for a recent video shoot we did for allure.com—and trust me, if it stood up against HD cameras, it can get you through a day at the office.

Step one: Moisturize. This step is a no-brainer, but I’m reminding you because it’s the most important, especially if you’re skipping foundation.

Step two: Conceal. Using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage concealer, Scarpelli covered blemishes and darkness under my eyes. Then, instead of covering up the redness on my T-zone with concealer, she used a green-tinted color-correcting primer (Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer, to be exact), brushing it around my nose and on my chin. This nixed the splotchiness without actually adding any color to the skin for the ultimate natural-looking finish. A green primer isn’t for everyone, though: Go for lilac if your skin looks sallow, blue if it’s orangey, or yellow if you have bad undereye circles, and brush it only where you absolutely need it.
