Tuesday’s magnitude-7.3 quake, centered midway between Kathmandu and Mount Everest, triggering some landslides and sending people in the city scrambling for cover.
At least 68 people were killed in the quake and more than 1,100 were injured. That toll was expected to rise as reports began reaching Kathmandu of people in isolated Himalayan towns and villages being buried under rubble.

India was also affected by tremors, and roughly 17 of the 68 killed were in India. Officials say an American military helicopter is still missing and had 6 U.S. Marines and two Nepalese aboard. Officials say they are hopeful the helicopter didn’t crash but are still searching for the aircraft.
Impoverished Nepal appealed for billions of dollars in aid from foreign nations, and will need even more help now.
