Manh Ingwerson has a lot to be thankful for and a lot to celebrate. As the county’s first Vietnamese police officer, Ingwerson is celebrating 30 years with the Westminster Police Department.

Ingwerson was born in Vietnam and lived there for ten years before he came to America in 1968 with his mom and stepfather, taking his last name. He joined the police academy in 1985 and was recruited to work in the Little Saigon community with the expectation of helping the department better understand the new population sprouting up.
Ingwerson says his early days as an officer was tough, and Westminster was rife with gang violence. He has seen a lot in his 30 year career– protests, gang violence, home invasions, prescription drug fraud– you name it, he’s been a part of it. Today, he says the city is in good hands and has quieted down a lot, meaning he is ready to retire and spend more time with his wife, five children and 3 grandchildren.
