Seeing red: Optometrist robbed of $20,000 worth of frames

Carlos Saucedo, ABC10 News

A small business owner is lucky to have escaped unharmed in a robbery that resulted in $20,000 worth of frames being stolen. Surveillance video captured the moment the suspects first set eyes on the eyeglass shop in the Pocket area. Huyen Nguyen, the owner of Site for Sore Eyes in Sacramento, was still in the shop when the intruders broke the front door class to steal the frames. It was after 11 p.m. when she saw two people casing the store from the outside.

A security guard noticed the two and ran them off but it wasn’t long before they returned.

Video showed the suspect’s first attempt at smashing the front window had failed. However, the second attempt was a success. While one of the suspect’s was busy grabbing frames inside the glass towers, Nguyen and her small dog ran to the back as she was on the phone with police.

It wasn’t long before the thieves made off with more than 70 designer frames worth $20,000. Thanks to the surveillance video and suspect description provided by Nguyen, police were able to arrest the thieves. Sacramento police are not releasing the names of the suspects due to the ongoing investigation.

The frames were returned to Nguyen but said she’s still at a loss because they were left scratched. Nguyen said she’s just lucky the crooks never saw her but she’ll be prepared if she’s targeted again. Nguyen said she will install more surveillance to deter attacks such as this from happening in the future.
