In an ongoing saga between the city of Garden Grove and several Vietnamese-American community groups on whether or not they will host a Tet Festival, Mile Square Park now has come into the equation. Years ago, there was only one held at Garden Grove Park, held by the Union of Vietnamese Students. Due to increasing fees and a fall out with the city, the youth took their long running festival to the Costa Mesa’s Orange County Fair & Event Center.. In their place, the Vietnamese-American community stepped in and created their own festival for the past two years. This year, the city opened up their application process to the public after the group failed to pay the city $27,000.

The group submitted an application and hoped to reduce the fees and host again. However, they recently withdrew their application after striking a deal with the county to host one at Mile Square Park.
That festival is scheduled for the weekend after the Lunar New Year, Feb. 12-14. The festival will be near Freedom Lake, near Euclid Street and Edinger Avenue.
The city is fielding another proposal from a two-organization partnership: between the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Association in Southwestern USA, and the Tran Hung Dao Foundation. The Garden Grove City Council will likely weigh whether to allow the organizations to host a festival at its Nov. 10 meeting.
