Vietnamese American allegedly shoots hunting guide to death

From WIRE REPORTS

Police in Viet Nam‘s central province of Khanh Hoa said Monday they have arrested a Vietnamese American man, alleging he accidentally shot and killed a local man who had accompanied him on a hunting trip, a newspaper reported.

Nguyen Nam, 53, who was hunting endangered monkeys, will be charged with manslaughter, violating regulations on the protection of endangered animals and illegal storage and use of weapons.

On March 13, Nam hired four ethnic Raglai men to accompany him to a forest near Cam Ranh town for hunting.

He allegedly shot two monkeys, but, at around 3:30 p.m. that day, when Cao Thang – one of the four guides – climbed a tree to look for monkeys, Nam mistook him for one and shot him, police said.

Thang, 41, fell off the tree and died on the spot.

After examining the scene and his body, local police seized the two monkey carcasses and Nam‘s gun.

They did not elaborate on how they arrested Nam.

He had shot two douc langurs, a species protected by Vietnamese law, they said.
