She is young, talented and ready to make her US debut at the “Directions in Sound” concert in Mercer on March 13th. Born Hàng Lâm Trang Anh, “Suboi”, as she is known, has been listening to rap since she was a teenager. She credits Will Smith and Eminem as early musical inspirations and says she identified with that type of music to express herself.

She released her first album Walk when she was 20, and is ready for a new challenge at 25. She says as one of very few female Vietnamese rappers in her mother land, she doesn’t have too many other colleagues to feed off of. That’s why she wants to try her hand in the American market since she knows it’s where hip hop was born. Suboi will be co-headlining with another female rapper, Awkwafina, who she hopes to collaborate with in the future.
