Driving under the influence is a very serious offense, but it is even worse when you lose control of your vehicle and harm others. William Nguyen, 29, of Corona, did just that but one-upped the gravity of his actions by hitting sheriff’s deputy.

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy’s K-9 patrol vehicle and a white sedan were involved in a collision in Huntington Beach early Thursday. Both drivers were injured. The sedan’s driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. (Courtesy Huntington Beach Police)
Officers arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his car into a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy vehicle at a Huntington Beach intersection.
The deputy, a resident of Huntington Beach, was driving with his canine partner in a marked patrol SUV north on Newland Street near Slater Avenue at 4:38 a.m. As it crossed the intersection, a sedan traveling east on Slater crashed into the driver’s side of the deputy’s vehicle.
The collision sent both vehicles crashing into a concrete wall on the northeast corner of the intersection. The deputy had to be cut out of the SUV. He and Nguyen were taken to hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy’s dog was not injured and was taken by another sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Huntington Beach police traffic division at (714) 536-5663.
