Vietnamese socialite in jail for money laundering

Katherine Le, a well known socialite in Houston along with her husband, Hao Dinh Nguyen, 51, and fourt others are in jail for money laundering. Le and her husband are charged with organized criminal activity. Ironically, Le, 47, was named as Houston Chronicle Best dressed honoree in 2010.

Also arrested in Thursday’s sweep were Thinh Nguyen, 63, Bich Thuy Nguyen, 46, Urixie Palacios-Juarez, 35, and Jose Palacios-Juarez, 28.

They are all accused of concealing more than $300,000 in proceeds from illegal gambling. All remain in jail on million-dollar bonds, a common bail in high-dollar white collar cases. If convicted of the first-degree felony, all face a maximum punishment of life in prison.
