Vietnamese woman dies after being struck by boat while snorkeling

A young woman lost her life while snorkeling near Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California. 22-year-old Belinda Joanne Nguyen was struck in the head by a boat’s propeller while snorkeling near Isthmus Cove.

Her body was transported by Sheriff’s rescue helicopter, Air-5, personnel to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. Nguyen grew up in the Los Feliz area and had been living on Catalina Island for some time.


The investigation is being conducted by collision investigators at Marina Del Rey Sheriff’s Station.Witnesses are asked to contact the Avalon Sheriff’s Station at 310-510-0174.
