Washington man pleads guilty to trying to hire hit men in Vietnam


Long Van Nguyen, 45, a resident of University Place, Wash., has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to kill people of a foreign country and solicitation to commit a crime of violence. Nguyen had been charged with unknowingly soliciting undercover federal agents to kill his nephew in Vietnam. Nguyen wanted to hire the assassins to kill his nephew and six others. Under a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to ask for no more than 14 years in prison, though the federal judge must approve the deal. Conspiracy to kill could bring up to life in prison alone.
