When Ebola hit, Alex and Jen Tran were ready to lend a hand

Some people were born to serve. And sometimes, it is simply in their blood. In the case of Alex Tran and his sister Jen, both can be said about the brother/sister, epidemiologist/registered nurse duo.

When the ebola epidemic first came to light, especially in the hard hit areas of Sierra Leone and Africa, Tran and his sister were one of the first on the front lines to lend a hand. Alex got there first, working with the International Medical Corps. His sister Jen was deployed with the Navy and was able to join him soon after. With no infrastructure and no concrete plans to help those in need, Tran was in charge of setting up the data systems but ended up doing much to set up the first ebola hospital. It is an experience he says was one of the most intense he’s ever experienced.
